What is ultrasonic cleaning?
Ultrasonic cleaners use a process called “cavitation” in order to get your jewellery shiny and looking like new. Cavitation is when alternating positive and negative pressure creates micro-bubbles. As these bubbles form and collapse millions of times against your jewellery, they draw out the dirt and debris from your jewellery.

Can all gemstones be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner?
The good thing about ultrasonic cleaners is that they are compatible with most precious metals and some non-organic gemstones. However, there are some gems and jewellery items that you should not use with an ultrasonic machine.
Generally, any gemstone that has been fractured and filled should be avoided. You may not be able to tell by looking at a gem, sometimes whether it has inclusions. Leather should not be used in any ultrasonic cleaning machine.
The best practice is to consult the guide supplied with the jewellery. You can also consult a specialist who can confirm whether your piece of jewellery is compatible with an ultrasonic cleaning machine or not.
