The Importance of Filtration in Ultrasonic Cleaning

Alphasonics Filters

As experts in the Ultrasonic Cleaning industry, Alphasonics understand the importance of filtration and how to prevent your systems failing. During the month of March 2020, we are offering our UK Customers 10% off Filters, only when you purchase 6 or more through Joanne.

Understanding the importance of filtration

Filtration is a process used to separate solids from liquids or gases using a medium filter that allows the fluid to pass through, preventing the solid to build up within the cleaning solution. The term “filtration” applies whether the filter is mechanical, biological or physical whereas the fluid that passes through the filter is called “the filtrate.”

In the case of Alphasonics, the filtrate is the water and chemical cleaning solution used during the Ultrasonic Cleaning stage. The media that requires filtering from the solution in question, can come from printing press parts, Anilox Rolls, fuel nozzles and anything else that requires a 100% precision clean. It can be anything from various types of ink particles, to wood or steel particles. It is vital that correct filter is selected for the application at hand and luckily, this is something that Alphasonics have over 30 years of experience in.

The filters used in the Alphasonics systems are made up of a polypropylene yarn and core for a higher chemical resistance. These are available in sizes ranging from 5” to 20” with various micron ratings and widths.

Not only will a filtration unit on your system save you money by adding longevity to the cleaning solution, it will also give you a lot more consistency and control when cleaning. The result is a high, dirt loading capacity with greater efficiency.

At Alphasonics, we can design our systems to inform you when the filters need to be changed, however, it is always a good idea to introduce this process into your PPM as a filter change schedule.

Features of the most popular filters used in our systems:

  • Full 63mm O.D. provides 0.3m2 of filter area per 10” length
  • Low pressure drop
  • Precision wound diamond lattice
  • Micron accuracy tested
  • Polypropylene yarn and core for excellent chemical resistance
  • Provides a low cost, high surface area and longer continuous high flow operation
