These lower cost devices have been developed specifically for use in dental surgeries for the complete removal of protein prior to instruments being inserted into a disinfector washer. The removal of protein is a critical requirement in achieving consistent sterility and is widely accepted in decontamination that high temperature washers do not fully remove the protein. As such, this can enable residual amounts to remain on the instrument after processing.
Protein cannot consistently be removed by steam sterilization.
The Alphasonics devices will deliver a high log reduction in the region of 5 on heavily soiled instruments and in the region of 6 on lightly soiled instruments, being a higher log reduction than most disinfector washers.
